Charlie John

Charles T. John, known as Charlie John, was born in 1952 and started silversmithing in 1968 and is very well known. He specializes in overlay and traditional stamp work using his own custom stamps and is a master of overlay combined with stamp work. He creates timeless, sophisticated jewelry, often set with gem grade natural turquoise.

Morenci Turquoise

The Morenci mine produces many varieties of colors and is sought after for its iron pyrite matrix. The mine is in southeastern Arizona and the first records of this area were those of Henry Clifton and an army scout by the name of Robert Metcalf in 1864. In 1956 the mine was purchased by the Brown family and they operated it until 1984.  Morenci is a relatively rare turquoise and high quality stones are very valuable. The Morenci mine has stopped producing any significant amount of turquoise, but the Brown family still cuts cabochons from stones that have been previously mined. -The Turquoise Museum.
