Mountian Lion - Leadership, resourcefulness, great courage

Richard Abeita, Jr. is most know for his talent in detailed sculpting. He expresses himself through his work by creating various expressions on his fetish sculptures. The symbol Richard uses to sign his works represents his traditional name, Sunrise Down a Good Road. He maintains his studio in Isleta, New Mexico, where he resides with his teenage son Terrence who has also has begun sculpting.

Richard is a proud member of Isleta Pueblo, in New Mexico. He was born in 1972 and began sculpting at the age of twelve under the guidance of his father Richard Abeita, Sr. It wasn’t until the age of eighteen that Richard became interested in a career as an artist and began participating in art shows in New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. Today, Richard’s scupltures are displayed in private collections, galleries, and museums throughout the United States and abroad.
